Terms and conditions

These terms and conditions refer to the following services:

  • Minimum age:
    These services are intended for those over the age of 18.
     

  • Services offered:
    Sub-editing and/or proofreading may be provided such as might be required by a magazine publisher or similar, by agreement. Typically, this might include:
     

  • Accuracy

  • Grammar

  • Readability

  • House style

  • Consistency

  • Potential legal issues

  • Fact-checking
     

  • Pricing and payment:

    Fees are according to volume of work or time spent, by agreement. Payment is to be made once the work is completed for small projects, and for larger tasks, part-payment might be sought during the project, by agreement. 
     

  • Turnaround time:
    By agreement. Should the client request changes that extend the turnaround time, extra fees might be incurred.
     

  • Communication
    Keeping in touch is vital, particularly if time is an issue, or if payments need to be made along the way. If communication is not kept up, delays might occur.
     

  • Cancellation policy:

    The client or the sub-editor can cancel the project, if circumstances dictate.
     

  • Liability:

    100% accuracy cannot be guaranteed. Remaining or newly-introduced errors, such as factual, grammatical, or spelling mistakes are all possible.
     

  • Intellectual property:

    The client retains ownership of the intellectual property rights to the document. The sub-editor will not plagiarise nor infringe upon copyright. 
     

  • Confidentiality:

    The sub-editor is committed to maintaining the confidentiality of the document and its contents, as well as the identity of clients. Please see here.
     

  • Force majeure:

    Circumstances beyond the control of either party may delay or prevent the completion of the work (e.g., natural disasters, illness). 
     

  • Governing law:
    UK law will govern the terms of any agreement.
     

  • Acceptance:

    By using the service, the client will have deemed to have read, understood, and agreed to the terms and conditions.
